Helena's most recognizable landmark are the twin spires of The Cathedral of St. Helena. The cornerstone for the cathedral was laid in 1908, taking nearly 20 years to complete the building. "Here it stands, stately as a queen, beautiful as a bride, holy as the city of God." With those words, The Cathedral of St. Helena was consecrated to God in 1924, culminating the many years of work and effort required to make a dream reality.
The cathedral is modeled after Vienna's Votive Church of the Sacred Heart, in the Victorian Gothic style. It was built with limestone from Bedford, Indiana, considered to be sturdier stone than Montana sandstone. In 1980, the cathedral was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Pictures cannot possibly do justice to the beauty of this cathedral.
