"KANANASKIS, CANADA ADVENTURE"

Today, July 1, 2012, is officially Canada Day so there were a lot of celebrations going on all over Canada.  Before leaving on our adventure of the day, we made our first diesel purchase in Canada paying $1.15 per liter that equates to about $4.40 per gallon ... almost what we were paying in California recently.  Our 213-mile trip today gave us an average of 20.8 miles per gallon.  So, no complaints from us.

We chose to spend our day touring the Kananaskis Country, and our adventures were not disappointing.  We left home (Cochrane) around 11:30 a.m. with temperature at 69 degrees, and the same when we returned at 5:00 p.m.  However, in some areas temperature dropped to 51 degrees while we were out and about.  I learned that Cochrane is the foundation of Alberta's cattle industry and growing to become Calgary's "bedroom community."

Kananaskis Country claims to have some of the best ranching country in North America.  Some of these low rolling hills have been settings for movies such as Shanghi, Unforgiven, and Legends of the Fall.  What we saw today was really an indescribable beauty all of its own.  A pure vision of loveliness.

Today's adventures will require about four posts as it is much too difficult to select only a few photos.

  1. WOW WOW WOW check out that Western sky. Nothing like it. The clouds are magnifient. Grat shot of the church with clouds in the background. One of my "Nun' teachers from high school lived in Cochrane. I am sure that would have been her family church and I bet she played the organ there.
